Monuments of Downeast

THE ARCHITECTURE OF NEW ENGLAND CHURCHES JUST SEEMS TO STAND OUT MORE THAN OF MOST I HAVE SEEN AROUND THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.  YES, THERE ARE MANY FINE STRUCTURES ELSEWHERE, BUT MOST CONSISTENT IN THE ORIGINAL THIRTEEN COLONIES.

This one beautiful structure, The Congregational Church, in East Machias Maine, has a long family history, within my family’s circles… and stands out, so much, as the beginnings of the growth of our country, through the west coast.

Patina, time, wear and the elements….. show a bit hard, but make her, even more so filled with dignity…. tasking the forces of our lives, to move always forward.
